The Builder
Take it from a person who has been in your shoes, searching for a quality for a Quality RV that is for sale, is not easy. You do not have to look very far to find high quality RVs, but it is another story if you are trying to find one for sale. After a few years, I found mine and after clicking on this page, you may have found yours. High quality RVs are far and few between in the market because their owners have poured so much effort, pride and money into them, that short of a major life changing event, they would never sell them. Unfortunately, such an event has befallen the creator of N151JB.
Jim Bishop……. you can not describe this aircraft without understanding the builder. When you look closely at the workmanship you see Jim Bishop. If I had to describe Jim in three words it would be Intelligent, Perfectionist and Skilled. Jim is a retired Electrical Engineer who worked for Bell Aircraft and Sylvania then created his own business in Electronic test equipment. Working and living in up state New York, Jim soon discovered the advantages of private aviation in serving widely scattered clients of his electronics business. He soon jumped into aviation with the typical tenacity that he employs to any project worthy of his time. After acquiring his Private Pilot license, he continued on and earned the following ratings: Instrument, Multi Engine, Multi Engine Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFI Instrument, CFI Multi Engine Instrument, AP mechanic, AP Mechanic with Inspection Authority.
After a successful career and business in the electronics industry, Jim retired to Florida. Living at an air park, he was able to continue his passion for aviation. Flying and maintaining multiple aircraft was not enough to keep Jim’s mind and skill set well exercised, so in 2001 he began the construction of N151JB. I met Jim in 2004 and he was well into the construction of the RV 7A. I owned a Searey at the time and did not know much about RVs. Watching Jim build the RV 7A really introduced me to what great planes they are capable of becoming. After years of searching, I finally found a RV8 that almost impressed Jim. It had a couple minor shortfalls that I knew Jim would be quick to notice and he did notice. I did witness Jim telling a fellow aviator one day that I had found a really nice RV and with that I felt more justified in my purchase.
Jim is the go to guy to get an opinion or guidance on aircraft related questions. He is one of the few people I know that I can have a great technical discussion with and come away learning something new every time. He has and continues to help me learn and practice quality aircraft ownership. When Jim told me he made the difficult decision to sell the RV7A, I agreed to help to help him present the aircraft to the public in a way that is deserving of its workmanship and quality. So… if your are serious about acquiring a quality built RV, please explore these pages and call me at 352-625-6000 with any questions.
